"When our board first appointed Thembe, we had a sense that she would be the right person to set the organisation on a path to prosperity. What we hadn’t reckoned on was her enormous energy, resilience and an unexpected compassion. She was not afraid to cast a big vision, demonstrating her firm grasp of issues and sound long-range thinking. She introduced a number of innovations, in particular two new social enterprises which continue to be reliable revenue streams for the organisation to this day. She also used her extensive network in the business community to propel a fresh new face for the organisation in ways that we would not have been able to access without her. Bringing her signature passion and optimism, she was not only good for Island Hospice, but also good to it." - ROB WARD, Former board member, Island Hospice & Healthcare ______________________ |
There’s nothing quite like experiential learning!
And that's what I've enjoyed over the many years that I've held senior management and board positions in media, private sector, not-for-profit and government projects. I love using what I’ve learnt to support SMEs and entrepreneurial leaders as a mentor, coach, an investor and a trusted advisor. Getting my life coaching certification in 2016 has made this even more fulfilling, as I’ve had the honour of advising entrepreneurs, politicians, investors, and professionals in a number of sectors including business, health and civil society.
I picked up my training skills when I was a leader for the Zimhost Customer Care initiative, and I’ve used these skills to support start-ups on programmes such as Ubuntu Lab’s Level-Up, Moto Republik’s ZW9 Accelerator, the US Embassy’s Women’s Development Dialogue and the Elegant Grind. I also work closely with Seedstars Africa, supporting the regional leg of the global pitch competition annually as a mentor.
As an alum of the Fortune/US State Department’s global Women’s Mentorship Programme which allowed me to work under the VP of Marketing at Time Inc. in New York, I am delighted to pass on what I have learnt to a new generation of leaders.
